Chocolate lovers of all ages are invited to stop in at Little Falls’ Big M market on  Friday, February 12th,  beginning at 9:00 a.m. to purchase homemade chocolate treats and confections handmade by Preserve Our Past’s members and friends.  Back for the third year by popular demand, this fine food sale has established a reputation for quality products.  Cupcakes, cookies, biscotti, filled cakes, homemade candy are some of the treats which may be purchased as valentines for that special friend, spouse, or child.  Proceeds from this exceptional sale will be used toward POP’s historic preservation projects within the city of Little Falls.  Friends of POP and all others interested in the promotion of historic preservation are invited to contribute to this sale.

Chocolate was once the beverage of the European well-to-do, one that was gradually transplanted to America as the colonies became better established and a moneyed leisure class was developed.  Occasional purchases  of chocolate as a luxury item show up in local 18th century store account books proving that it did indeed exist in early Mohawk Valley.  It was only after Milton Hershey visited the late 19th century ChicagoExposition and brought chocolate processing equipment home toPennsylvania did chocolate become available to the average person.  Chocolate is now a valued segment of the American diet, one which never fails to delight every palette.  Another chapter in chocolate’s history is being written in the 21st century as Hershey contemplates its move to Mexico, bringing it one step closer to the South American  Aztec countries of its origin more than five hundred years ago.

Community cooks wishing to cook “For the Love of Chocolate”sale may bring their donations to the Big M before 9 am on the day of the sale.  Call 823-3551 for further information.
